Can INTPs Become INTJs? Here Is What You Should Know

Can your personality type change? The MBTI theory places the INTP and INTJ as highly individualistic thinkers with incomparable knowledge and insight.

But you might be wondering… What are the differences between INTPs and INTJs? Can INTPs become INTJs throughout their lives? Why would one desire to turn into an INTJ? Maybe it’s the INTJs’ confidence or the insane focus they’re capable of having.

The short answer is: that there are many ways in which INTPs can train themselves to display INTJs characteristics they enjoy. It’s essential that INTPs understand why they want to change certain aspects of their personality before making these changes.

Whatever the case, let’s now dive deeper into this topic and answer questions such as: How can INTPs turn into INTJs? Is it possible to be both INTP and INTJ? What can INTPs learn from INTJs?

How Can an INTP Turn Into an INTJ?

All the functions of these personality types are precisely the opposite. INTJs operate primarily on intuition, while INTPs rely mostly on thinking.

If you want to switch from INTP to INTJ, you’ll need to completely forget who you are and gradually alter your thought process.

For example, as an INTP, you would typically analyze a topic accurately early on through very sharp intuitive thinking, with little external input needed. For INTJs, you’ll need external data, information, and an actionable plan to engage with topics and ideas.

INTPs also can see all the possibilities early on and are capable of improvising anytime they need to come up with an out-of-the-box solution.

If you want to become an INTJ, that chaotic approach would have to be replaced by a more pragmatic and thoughtful consideration of ideas. Identifying unique patterns and getting visionary about them is how INTJs thrive.

The task looks extremely tough and daunting, doesn’t it? Is it even possible?

If you’re thinking about embracing more INTJs qualities into your life, thinking about why is essential. Are you not comfortable with yourself currently?

Why INTPs Might Want to Turn Into INTJs (Is it really worthed?)

INTPs like how INTJs can view big pictures and spontaneously act, while in the same situation, INTPs over-think and jumble ideas to try and make sense of them.

INTPs love the INTJs’ holistic, energetic, and decisive nature. While INTPs might feel that they’re lazier, socially awkward, chaotic, and highly indecisive.

INTPs might hate themselves because they constantly think and plan about the things most important to them but can never actually get them done.

Therefore, as they want to improve their decisiveness and competence, INTPs wish to convert to INTJs. But guess what? That’s probably not going to work very well. It’s potentially dangerous because INTPs might hate their personality even more.

The solution? Learn how to love yourself and embrace every single aspect of your personality. The grass is always greener on the other side… There are many qualities that INTPs have that INTJs can only dream of having.

INTP individuals are much more analytical, warm, curious, ingenious, and spontaneous than INTJs. Be sure to focus on your strengths and improve your weaknesses!

INTPs should recognize that there are probably other aspects of their personality (e.g., indecisiveness) that they struggle with and work on these weaknesses gradually over time.

Based on a theory, there can be no valid reason to convert personality types and feel inferior to others.

Is it Possible To Be Both INTP and INTJ?

Based on my experience, people who express both INTJ and INTP characteristics are actually INTPs emulating INTJs.

INTPs may have learned to emulate INTJs characteristics because that’s what society subtly prefers. This includes:

  • Goal oriented
  • Succinctness over accuracy
  • Being organized
  • Faster, decisive decision-making
  • Keeping commitments
  • Better dressed

INTPs who have gone through some form of adversity often acquire INTJ characteristics. Nothing like experiencing hardship brings out a person’s ingenuity and practical skills.

In addition, INTPs who complete complex creative projects might develop more of the practical J characteristic. Accomplishments are the hallmark of INTJs.

INTJs are known for their unique approach to problem-solving. They always have their eye on the goal and focus on finding a way to reach that goal, even when they might not know how to get started.

INTPs are strategists who generally already know where their goal is. They’re not typically good at planning, though. They tend to start learning the surrounding terrain by slowly working their way inward towards the goal.

In this process, there is always the possibility of more learning opportunities and new discoveries. Sometimes, different goals are accomplished simultaneously as well.

What Can an INTP Learn From an INTJ?

  1. Be more organized and learn to schedule your life. INTPs need to be more proactive about their time management so they can finish what they start and not be caught up with one task in pursuit of the other.
  1. If you want to dress in all black, then at least make it look fashionable. Confidence is vital, and learning how to dress appropriately helps tremendously.
  1. Stop being stuck in a rut and chase your goals instead of staying in the same place. The world doesn’t care where you’ve been before. It only wants to see where you’re going next.
  1. Improve your productivity. People have busy schedules and often don’t have time to wait for you to finish your work.
  1. In general, people aren’t interested in the specific details. They’re more concerned with what you’re producing overall. You should focus on big-scale efforts that have a significant impact rather than on small pieces.

On the flip side, INTPs also have a lot to teach INTJs, such as:

  1. Do not be snobby all the time! You need to show some humility. It is not ok to reject people all the time.
  1. Slow down and take a break to give yourself some air. Patience is good; it allows you to breathe and get amped up again once things get better.
  1. Being too ambitious can lead you to make bad decisions that can jeopardize your health. You must not let your ambition consume you but also take care of yourself to be in the best condition possible.
  1. Trust is an essential part of success, and being in a position to make it happen requires learning how to trust others. Mistakes are made, and people have their own unique situations that they must work on.
  1. Listen to others and embrace being naive for once! There’s always something to be learned from everybody in this world. It’s up to you to find that knowledge in every interaction.

Final Thoughts

There are definitely many ways to change your personality – and there are a lot of factors you need to understand to choose the best ones.

INTPs can learn how they like change, explore why they want specific changes, and consider the risks they take before making these changes.

INTPs should learn to love every part of themselves. No matter what your personality type is, there are always areas that you could improve on. There are many INTP qualities that INTJs can only dream of having.
